Our eyes are the window to the rest of the body. Often eyes are forgotten when it comes to taking care of our health. We don't realize the importance of vision and how it impacts the rest of our body until there is a concern. It is critical to wellness to be proactive not reactive to your health. Since May is Vision Health Month, it is an important reminder to think about our eyes and learn about the simple steps we can take to keep them healthy.
We believe 1 in 7 Canadians will develop serious eye disease in their lifetime. Yet 75% of vision loss can be prevented or treated with proper care. Clearly, looking after our eyes can make all the difference.
The first step to healthy eyes is to have a comprehensive eye exam. Adults should be examined every two years, children and those over 65 every year, and infants should have their first exam between six and nine months old.
At Eyes Focused on You, we take a Better Together approach to your health by encouraging healthcare professionals to work together, putting patients at the centre of care, and empowering patients to play a more active role in their health and the health of their families.
Since we believe an integrative approach is the key to wellness, we were delighted to see that the Honourable Ginette Petipas Taylor, P.C. M.P, Canada's Minister of Health, is speaking out in support of Vision Health Month! In a statement, she echoes the need for regular eye exams and points out how many factors contribute to your health. Imagine the wellness we could create if all of our health care providers, government and individuals work together!
