When was the last time you saw a massage therapist in an optometrist’s office? We’d bet NEVER! This is the magic that is integrative healthcare.
Wellness Educator and Registered Massage Therapist, Margaret Wallis-Duffy, has been working with Dr. Teske and modelling integrative health for their patients. They are living the ‘Better Together’ philosophy and their patients are delighted with the results.
In a recent video shot at Dr. Teske’s office, Margaret Wallis-Duffy shares her experience in treating a patient with Bell’s palsy. Live from the Vision Therapy room, Margaret talks about how important it is for healthcare professionals to link arms and work together as wellness advocates, putting the patient at the center of our health care system. The evidence is there. Patients do better when they work together with all of their health care professionals.
Margaret shares a story of how micro current point stimulation therapy impacts the autonomic nervous system and was a logical treatment option for a patient with Bell’s palsy. The patient was experiencing facial discomfort and blurriness of vision. Dr. Teske had been treating the patient for dry eye and knew that partnering with Margaret to provide additional therapies meant that this patient would be receiving care beyond what an optometrist could provide. The micro current treatment helped to calm the patient’s central nervous system. Following treatment, her tear gland function improved and the blurriness diminished.
The philosophy of integrative health and working better together is to educate, inspire and empower patients to take control of their wellness and prevent disease. To learn more, speak to your holistic optometrist at your next appointment.
